GUADALUPE COUNTY--Seguin City Council is still fighting a proposed landfill.

Tuesday night members voted to ban future waste management companies holding contracts with the city to use a landfill built over an aquifer. The move is in response to the proposed Post Oak Clean Green Inc landfill.

According to the proposal, a thin liner could be the only thing separating a landfill from the recharge zone of the Carrizo-Wilcox aquifer. The Post Oak MSW Landfill would be built about 25 minutes east of Seguin.

The proposal has not been approved by the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality. For months there's been public outcry and local leaders fighting the project, who say it will impact a wider region than most people think.

"We not only serve Schertz and Seguin, we also serve some other communities. We provide water to the city of Selma, the city of Universal City, Springs Hill Water Supply Corporation, and also the San Antonio Water System,” said Alan Cockerell with the Schertz-Seguin Local Government Corporation.

“We've engaged experts on our behalf, our mayors of Seguin and Schertz have testified in Austin in opposition to the landfill,” city manager Douglas Faseler said.

Time Warner Cable News reached out to the landfill company Post Oak Clean Green Incorporated for comment. Our calls have gone unreturned and our emails unanswered.
