VICTOR, N.Y. -- The School of Holy Childhood, which provides education and vocational training for children and adults with physical and developmental disabilities, held its annual mock trial event this week in Victor Town Court. Students play the roles of a judge, defense attorneys, prosecutors and jurors, while their teachers are the ones on trial.
School Manager of Recreation Program Tim Baird said the event has quickly become one of most highly anticipated events for students.
"They love this. They get so worked up about being able to come and play the roles, and they get really excited. It's one of the first programs to get filled up when I send the letters out to the parents."
The annual mock trial is made to feel like the real thing. Witnesses are called and there's even cross-examination.
“I’ve never been in a courtroom before so this was pretty exciting. It got really tough there for a moment when they started to point at our client,” said Ramon Becker, who played the role of a defense attorney.
Helping the students were Judge Toby Reh, Attorney Angelo Rose, and Judge Craig Doran.
