The city health department said Sunday that it is investigating a possible flu-related death of a child.
Police sources told NY1 that a five-year-old girl from Canarsie was transported to Brookdale Hospital around 8 p.m. Saturday and was pronounced dead there.
She tested positive for the flu after her death, but it is not clear if she had a flu test before she died, sources told NY1.
She is the fourth New York City child to die this flu season who tested positive for the highly-contagious virus. Sources said she had suffered from a fever for a week.
Further details of the girl's death are not known at this time. The city police department said the Medical Examiner is investigating the exact cause of death.
