The city is making it possible to combine unlimited-ride time and pay-per-ride dollar values on a single MetroCard.

The MTA says that customers who have a weekly or monthly card can now refill them by adding a dollar value.

The money will be used to pay per ride once the unlimited-ride time expires.

The move comes ahead of the MTA's new $1 fee for a new card, which will go into effect on March 3.

The MTA says that reusing a MetroCard will save money and help the environment.
