Police say a woman was hit and killed by a 2 train early Tuesday morning after she apparently fell onto the subway tracks.

It happened around 5 a.m. at the 34th Street and Seventh Avenue stop, just blocks from the Times Square ball drop.

The New York City Police Department said the young woman was possibly intoxicated and was seen stumbling around the platform before she fell.

Police said she was in her 20s.

There has been extra scrutiny of the subways recently, following two separate incidents last month where men were shoved in front of trains and killed.

The most recent happened on Thursday in Queens, and police have charged a woman with murder as a hate crime in connection with the incident, which resulted in the death of 46-year-old Sunando Sen.
