Runners hit the pavement in Central Park Sunday for the inaugural Central Park marathon and half marathon.

The full marathon looped five times around the park before crossing the 72nd Street transverse and ending near Tavern on the Green.

It’s the first Manhattan marathon produced by an independent running club.

The marathon and half marathon were sponsored by the group NYCRUNS.

As they laced up their sneakers Sunday morning, marathoners said they couldn't ask for better weather.

"New Yorkers like marathons, and we knew the weather was going to be beautiful, so we said today's the day," said Steven Lastoe, race director of NYCRUNS.

"This is a great temperature," said one runner. "The sun is starting to come out, as you can see. 40, 45 degrees is perfect running temperature."

Awards were given to the top three overall finishers for both men and women.

All 1,500 participants received a medal, a hooded sweatshirt and a post-race meal.
