After being home to New York's bravest for more than a century, five more FDNY firehouses are now an official part of city history.

The Landmarks Preservation Commission approved five late 19th and early 20th century firehouses as city landmarks.

They include Brooklyn's Engine Company 228 in Sunset Park and Engine Company 240/Battalion 48 in Windsor Terrace; the Bronx's Engine Company 46/Hook and Ladder 17 in Bathgate and Engine Company 73/Hook and Ladder 42 in Longwood; and Engine Company 268/Hook and Ladder 137 in Rockaway Park in Queens.

Thirty-seven FDNY firehouses are now officially landmarked. Thirty-two of them are still in operation.
