A new program is being launched to help clean up at least 2,000 homes contaminated with mold because of flooding from Hurricane Sandy.

The $15 million program is being funded in part by the American Red Cross, the Robin Hood Foundation and the Mayor's Fund to Advance New York City.

Storm victims enrolled in the program will be able to get private contractors to scrub their homes for free.

The work is being overseen by the nonprofit "Neighborhood Revitalization NYC".

The city said it will work with that group and others on a referral process to decide who will get the free service.
