Fire officials are looking into what sparked a Sunday morning fire at a home in the Richmond Hill section of Queens.
It started just after midnight in the basement of a two-story house on 109th Avenue and raged all the way to the attic.
"There was tremendous smoke. We called the fire department immediately and we tried to evacuate the neighbors," said an area resident. "We called the neighbors. Luckily, the people in this house are away on vacation and no one's in there to be hurt."
Firefighters were able to bring the fire under control in an hour.
