The operator of the crane that collapsed and injured seven workers in Long Island City on Friday has had his license suspended, according to a statement from Department of Buildings Commissioner Robert Limandri.

The statement said crane operator Paul Greer attempted to lift a load of 23,900 pounds, which is more than double the weight capacity for the crane he was using.

The preliminary investigation conducted by DOB also showed Greer couldn't see the materials he was lifting and attempted to lift them outside the approved loading zone.

Work at the site remains halted as the investigation continues.
