Members of the city's cultural community started a campaign Tuesday to increase funding for local non-profit arts organizations.

Councilman Jimmy Van Bramer joined leaders in the art community to announce the One Percent for Culture Campaign.

The initiative aims to get one percent of the city's budget allocated towards the arts.

Speakers say the extra funding would actually boost the entire city's economy.

According to Van Bramer, only one quarter of one percent of the city's budget is currently dedicated to the arts.
