It was anything but a traditional Christmas for those families in areas devastated by Hurricane Sandy, but many took a break from their rebuilding efforts to celebrate the holiday.

A family in Breezy Point suffered major personal losses during the storm.

Of three sisters who live in the area, only one of them has been able to return to her home.

The other two have been living in rental homes as they repair tens of thousands of dollars in damage to their homes in the Rockaways.

"Our hearts were broken," Sandy victim Margaret Dugan said. "Now with everyone that's supported us, we can rebuild because our hearts have been put back together with all the love and support of everyone."

The sisters say they hope to be back in their own homes by next Christmas.
