A city fire marshal died Monday night after suffering an apparent heart attack while driving in Queens.
Police say 50-year-old Martin McHale was heading east on 84th Avenue, near 218th Street in Hollis Hills when he lost control of his truck and hit a tree.
He was pronounced dead at the hospital.
Sources say he had a cardiac event while behind the wheel.
McHale won a fire department award in 2007 for helping determine the cause of a fire in Queens.
His work later led to the discovery of a love triangle and the arrest of a suspect for arson.
