Members of the city's Sikh community gathered in the South Richmond Hill section of Queens on Saturday to remember the victims of the Newtown school shooting.
They lit candles and prayed during a memorial service at the Sikh Cultural Society.
Attendees told NY1 the tragedy hits close to home, coming just months after a shooting rampage at a Sikh temple in Wisconsin.
"When we heard as a community about this in Sandy Hook, it again shook us to our bones. I mean, what kind of person can think something like that and do something like that?" said Harpreet Singh Toor of the Sikh Cultural Society.
Six people were shot and killed in the rampage in Oak Creek, Wisc. over the summer. The shooter killed himself before police could reach him.
