The New York State Nurses Association pushed health officials Monday at City Hall to offer free flu shots in areas hardest hit by Sandy.
Leaders said it was important to avoid an outbreak where health care options are now limited.
"In some communities, it is well served in getting these flu shots and others it is non-existent," said Mary Fitzgerald, a member of the NYSNA.
"We saw officials get Wall Street up and running in two days. We need to put that same effort into addressing our city's health care crisis," said Patricia DeLillo, the president of the NYSNA.
The Health Department said it's allowing pharmacists to offer flu vaccines at more than 100 locations citywide.
It will also be sending out mobile health vans to areas like Far Rockaway and Staten Island.
