VSP Vision Care, a nonprofit vision benefits company, brought a 40-foot mobile eye clinic to Far Rockaway.

People who lost their glasses during the hurricane could get a new pair for free.

Appointments booked up quickly.

Anyone who they couldn't take was given a gift certificate for an appointment with a local doctor.

Some patients got their eyes checked for free and some even learned about issues they didn't even know they had.

"A lot of the diseases are genetic conditions such as glaucoma," said Dr. Haim Cohen. "Some of them are from old age such as cataracts. Some people have bleeding in the back of the eyes from diabetes."

If you lost your glasses because of the storm and need one of VSP's gift certificates, you can send an e-mail to mobileclinic@vsp.com.
