Elementary school students from Virginia raised money to help children in Queens affected by Hurricane Sandy.
Students from St. Thomas More Cathedral School in Arlington, Va. delivered a check for $16,00 to children at a sister parish of the same name in Breezy Point.
The money was raised from a special collection in the weeks following Sandy.
"It was cool, you know, to give the check and the sweatshirts and everything to our sister parish," said student Katie Fuller. "It was an experience that I've never had before.
"I'm thinking that the money that they're giving us will help us get back into our school," said parishioner Kristin Flanigan. "I think the money will help us get back in and get everything back to normal."
Many of the children in the Breezy Point parish attend school in Belle Harbor. They were only able to return to class this past Monday.
