The Metropolitan Transportation Authority said Thursday that limited service has been restored to the L train between Brooklyn and Manhattan. NY1's Tina Redwine filed the following report.

Some L train riders in Williamsburg could barely contain their excitement on Thursday afternoon.

"I'm really very happy today," said one rider. "I don't know how to express it. I can jump with joy."

They were happy at the news that the Metropolitan Transportation Authority brought back their L train, which is now running from end to end, from Canarsie in Brooklyn under the East River to Manhattan's West Side.

"My life has changed entirely," said one rider. "It's so nice to have the L train back."

Limited Service Restored To L Train
The MTA restored partial service to 5 stops on the L in the middle of Brooklyn last Thursday, but most riders in Williamsburg, which is close to Manhattan, said that didn't help them because the L is really the only line serving their neighborhood. They complained commutes took twice as long.

"I've taken like 4 or 5 transfers every day for the past week, so I'm glad it's finally running," said one rider.

"I've been waking up with cramps in my legs because of the walking I had to do," said another.

The MTA said restoration took several days because the tunnel under the East River was fully flooded. Crews had to pump it dry and then fix damaged track and electrical parts.

The MTA warned riders that they must be patient for the next few days. They don't want to overtax the system, so they are running fewer trains - one every 10 minutes - instead of every three.
