Cassell Brooks said it's another sad day in the city. This time, it happened to be his sad day. He found his 14-year-old son Kemar dead in Haffen Park early Friday morning.

"I thought he was safe over there," he said. "I didn't know these young men were so violent."

The medical examiner said the teen died after he was shot in the head.

An avid tennis player, Kemar hit the courts Thursday afternoon. When he didn't show up after it started raining, his dad says he walked outside the park looking for him but didn't find his boy.

Around 5 a.m., with no signs of him, Brooks went into the park and made the horrible discovery.

"Later on, it will hit me more harder when there is no one here to talk to," Brooks said.

Kemar and his dad moved to the Bronx from Jamaica two years ago. The teen immediately made a positive impact on this community.

"He is the one that made me believe I could live around here safe, said neighbor Felicia Bowens. "He is a very good kid. He was teaching grown-ups tennis. He even helped me set up my grill by had one day."

Church members were holding a crusade in the park all week. The pastor, Rev. C.G. Callender, said he preached about young people turning away from violence just hours before the shooting and only feet away from where Kemar was killed.

"I think as clergymen, we need to come out further and stand up against all these thugs and let the world, let the country, let the community know we are against crime, we are against violence," he said.
