Police are treating the killing of a city teacher as a botched home invasion.

29-year-old Simeonette Mapes's body was found in her home on Forest Hill Road in Heartland Village Thursday afternoon.

Investigators said her husband was coming home from work when he found her in the entryway with multiple stab wounds in the back.

They said the house was ransacked but they aren't sure if anything was stolen.

One neighbor said his wife heard arguing coming from the home, but couldn't make out what the argument was about.

"It's really bad because we thought this was a safe neighborhood," said one resident. "All of a sudden, something happens and everything changes."

The Department of Education says Mapes taught social studies at the School for Classics High School in Brooklyn since 2009.

Her husband also teaches there.

Police said they currently do not have any suspects.
