Nearly 3,700 city teachers, administrators and aides in four boroughs were told Monday they no longer have a job at their schools.
The educators put on notice are from the 24 schools in Manhattan, Bronx, Brooklyn and Queens the city is closing this summer to clear out staff members.
While they will not have a job at their school, their labor contracts will keep them employed while they reapply for their current job, or look for a job at a different school.
The teachers' and principals' unions have challenged the plan as a violation of their labor contract.
An arbitrator is expected to decide by the end of the month.
A United Federation of Teachers statement says no final decisions can be made until the arbitrator rules on the "sham closings."
