Consolidated Edison says thieves are endangering New Yorkers by stealing manhole covers around the city.

The utility says more than 30 covers disappeared over the past two months in Brooklyn, Queens and the Bronx.

At least one witness described individuals in utility uniforms removing covers and driving away in a pick up truck.

It is believed that they are being sold for scrap metal.

But Con Ed says without a cover, the holes could prove lethal to pedestrians and cars.

If you see any thefts or missing manhole covers, call 1-800-75-CON-ED.
