The city Fire Department is mourning a longtime Emergency Medical Services chief.
John McFarland passed away Monday from complications related to a brain tumor.
McFarland began as an EMT in 1983 and served in many positions, including chief of the academy and Queens Borough commander.
The father of five is remembered as an advocate for patients who embraced technological advances in the field.
