It may be January, but Mets fans headed back to Citi Field Thursday.
It was mostly about blood, not baseball, as the team held its annual winter blood drive.
Donors received a voucher for tickets to a Mets game in April, as well as a discount at the Mets team store.
All of the donations will go to the New York Blood Center.
"Particularly this blood drive being just after the first of the year, we are really replenishing diminished supply over the holidays from the past two weeks, holidays and schools being off. So this is a tremendous opportunity for community members to come out and save lives,” said Diana Zaferiou of the New York Blood Center.
“I know a lot of people need some blood and I have a little bit to spare, so why not, you know?” said Peter Mina, a blood donor.
The New York Blood Center says it receives about 600 blood donations from each Mets drive. The team hosts a second blood drive in the summer.
