The New York City Police Department's data show major crimes like murder, rape, and robbery are up by .2 percent through December 18 this year compared to the same period last year.

There have been 519 murders this year through December 18, a drop of 5.6 percent compared to almost the same time period last year.

The Bronx was the only borough to see a slight increase in murders.

Shootings are up by nearly three percent, and auto theft was down by 10 percent through December 18 this year compared to the same time period last year.
