As millions in Pakistan continue to fight flood waters, elected officials here in the city are urging New Yorkers to make charitable donations.
The floods hit the nation at the end of last month killing at least 1,500 people, and causing widespread damage.
Local officials say the people of Pakistan need our help.
"We have about 17 million that have been affected by these floods. Six million children are prone to disease in this area," said State Senator Jose Peralta of Queens.
"People are homeless. People need food, water, they need everything. And we have people on ground just to deliver those goods immediately," said Mohammad Razvi of The Council of Peoples Organization.
To donate $10 toward the disaster relief, text the word “SWAT” to 50555.
