The cause of a fast moving house fire that killed a Queens woman and her two-year-old son early Tuesday morning remains under investigation.
Flames broke out around 4:30 a.m. on the second floor of a two-story apartment building on Anderson Road in Springfield Gardens.
Fire officials say a 23-year-old pregnant woman who was living on the second floor was found dead at the scene from smoke inhalation. Her two-year-old son was pronounced dead at a nearby hospital.
Sources identify the victim as Linda Anderson and her son Ayden Hayes.
"She spent a lot of time with her son," said one neighbor. "She was really friendly and talkative. A nice girl, never rude, never disrespectful. That's why it's really sad."
Three other building residents, who lived on the first floor and in the basement, were able to leave the building.
Neighbors say the fire spread very quickly.
"My dog started barking and behind that, my husband, he turned around, he heard something and he said he called me and said, ‘there's lights outside’ and that's what drew our attention to the fire,” said a local resident.
Fire officials say they went to the wrong location initially because the 911 caller did not give a address, but were able to find the home within minutes and contain it soon after.
They are looking to track down the caller.
