A Department of Sanitation worker was killed Tuesday morning on the job in Queens, becoming the 10th on-the-job fatality in six years.

Frank Justich, 41, seen above, was standing behind his truck at around 7:40 a.m., when he was hit by a tractor trailer attempting to make a right turn on Ditmars Boulevard at 35th Street in Astoria.

Justich, an 11-year veteran of the DOS and a Flushing resident, died en route to Mount Sinai Hospital.

He leaves behind a wife and two young daughters.

This evening, family and friend set up a makeshift memorial at the site of the accident.

"He was a loved person, and he is the biggest shoes to fill in this family. No one is going to fill those shoes up," said James Justich, Frank's nephew.

"I'm really going to miss him being there for me. He was always there, he was a good guy and I just can't believe he's gone now," said Jonathan Justich, another nephew of the victim.

"This is an example of someone going to work in the morning and not coming home," said Harry Nespoli of the Uniformed Sanitationmen's Association. "These trucks go out every morning and nobody really knows what's going to happen out there."

According to the city, Justich is the 10th city sanitation worker to died in the line of duty since 2003; seven were struck by vehicles and three had heart attacks while on the job.

The New York City Police Department is investigating Justich's death but, at this point, no criminality is suspected. Charges have not been filed against the 37-year-old truck driver.
