The State Senate investigation into Queens Senator Hiram Monserrate took another step forward Monday.
After a unanimous vote establishing the committee, the panel of five Democrats and four Republicans deciding Monserrate's future officially convened at the Capitol.
Monserrate was convicted of misdemeanor assault against his girlfriend, but he was acquitted of several more serious felony charges, so he did not automatically lose his seat.
He is scheduled to be sentenced in December.
Many prominent New York Democrats have called for Monserrate's resignation.
