The girlfriend of State Senator Hiram Monserrate wants the restraining order against him lifted.

Karla Giraldo, left, has asked her lawyer to write a letter to the judge asking him to lift the order of protection, which has kept the couple apart for 10 months.

The lawyer said that given the intense level of public scrutiny surrounding Monserrate, there's no realistic danger to Giraldo.

Monserrate was accused of slashing her in the face with a broken glass. He was found guilty of a misdemeanor assault charge and cleared of felony charges earlier this month.

His sentencing is scheduled for December 4, but Giraldo said in the letter she does not want to wait that long to see him.
