Yankee Stadium hosted the World Football Challenge on Wednesday, but it was not American football, but soccer.

European teams AC Milan and Real Madrid laced up their cleats for a friendly match in the Bronx.

Thousands of fans, many of whom never had the chance to see their favorite team play in person, were excited about the game.

"It's awesome, you know. I got to go to Europe to see the game so the fact that they come here and play is great," said one fan.

"It's a good event. It'll show that even people in New York can watch soccer games, anywhere you go," said another.

"Actually my buddy texted me and said, 'Do you want to go to an AC Milan-Real Madrid game?' I was like, absolutely. I would never, never miss the opportunity when they play here," said a third.

Real Madrid dominated for a 5-1 win.

This was the second soccer match played at Yankee Stadium this year. Chelsea and Paris Saint-Germain played to a 1-1 tie last month.
