From classic looks to the truly creative, NY1’s George Whipple offers a look at two designers from Europe who showed their stuff in New York. Diane von Furstenberg harkened back to her European roots with her Rendez-vous collection for fall. For Diane, five words defined her creations: bold, daring, strong, seductive, and DVF.
“Those are my words and this is what the collection is about. It's called Rendez-vous, so what's a rendezvous? A rendezvous is a meeting with expectation and mystery,” says von Furstenberg.
As the name implies, the dresses prepare a woman for anything: business or pleasure or business and pleasure. The skirts were 3/4 length, the ladies wore long gloves and there were cloaks to prepare them for fall's chill. Drawn from a palette of Roseberry, frosted lime and obsidian, the feminine looks carried a woman from day to night.
From an American designer influenced by Europe to rendezvous with a European designer in America, the Custo Barcelona collection screamed sex appeal with an eclectic mix of patterns, fringe, tassels, fabrics, fur, sequins, copper lame and leather.
The eye-popping color dazzled as the models shimmered, glittered and shined as they strutted down the runway. The big bold patterns were also worn by men in the coed show. The clothes were a combination of science and math.
“This time we chose the path of experimentality by changing the volumes and proportions on the pieces and by adding the latest technological fibers mixed with the most traditional fabrics, as well,” says designer Custo Dalmau.
