Former Mayor Ed Koch headed home Saturday after a week-long stay at the hospital.

The 88-year-old former mayor was admitted to New York Presbyterian Hospital last Saturday with fluid in his lungs and swollen ankles.

He was originally set to be released Monday, but his doctors sent him home early.

"I'm delighted to go home," Koch said. "There's nothing like home. I mean, this is a second home, but there's nothing like home. And I'm going to do everything that Joe has told me to do, and I expect that I'll be in the office at the beginning of the week. Probably going home a little earlier than usual."

The former mayor has been advised to reduce his salt intake.

This is his third hospital stay in recent months. He was admitted in December with a respiratory infection, as well as in September with anemia.

Koch appears as a NY1 Wiseguy each week on the Road to City Hall.
