"Argo" Wins Best Picture At 85th Academy Awards

"Argo" won three Oscars, including Best Picture, en route to top honors at the 85th Academy Awards Sunday night.

The dramatic thriller about the rescue of six U.S. diplomats in 1979 Iran stole the spotlight from "Lincoln," Steven Spielberg's historical biography of the 16th U.S. president, which was nominated for 12 Academy Awards.

Daniel Day-Lewis won the lone Oscar for "Lincoln," taking home the Best Actor award for his portrayal of the president as he worked to abolish slavery over the last four months of his life.

"Argo," which was directed by and starred Ben Affleck, also won for Best Adapted Screenplay and Best Film Editing.

Ang Lee won Best Director for "Life Of Pi," the fantasy adventure based on the 2001 novel.

Jennifer Lawrence triumphed over a competitive field to win Best Actress for "Silver Linings Playbook," while Anne Hathaway won Best Supporting Actress for "Les Miserables."

Christoph Waltz won Best Supporting Actor for "Django Unchained."

"Searching For Sugar Man," about the American folk musician Sixto Rodriguez, won Best Documentary Feature.

First Lady Michelle Obama announced the Best Picture winner live from the White House.
