NY1's weekly segment "Your Weekend Starts Now" shows entertaining picks for great things to do this weekend all around the city. NY1's Arts reporter Stephanie Simon filed the following report.

Celebrate Brooklyn: Complexions Contemporary Ballet

First up, Celebrate Brooklyn this week with ballet. Complexions Contemporary Ballet is performing Thursday at the Prospect Park Bandshell. The company will perform excerpts from a selection of recent works, including Moonlight, Rise and Mercy, which is dedicated to the memory of Patrick Swayze. The show starts at 8 p.m. and is free but there is a suggested admission of $3.

NY International Fringe Festival

The NY International Fringe Festival kicks off Friday. It's the largest multi-arts festival in North America, with more than 200 companies from all over the world performing for 16 days in more than 20 venues, including The Underdeveloped and Overexposed Life and Death of Deena Domino, which will play five performances at The Kraine Theater at 85 East 4th Street.

Comedy at Magnet Theater

The joke's on anyone who's not checking out Magnet Theater on West 29th St at 8th Avenue. It has plenty of great comedy to offer for under $10, including its show Inspirado, the ultimate improv competition on Thursday nights. Magnet Theater also offers free improv classes.

Brooklyn Emerging Artists In Theater (BEAT)

This weekend, you're not going to want to miss a beat when getting these tickets. Get ready now for Brooklyn's first festival for emerging artists. It's called BEAT or Brooklyn Emerging Artists in Theater. It takes place in September but tickets have just gone on sale.

Hank and Cupcakes at the Mercury Lounge

Also this weekend, head over to the Mercury Lounge for some music and maybe some dessert. Hank and Cupcakes will take the stage at the Mercury Lounge in celebration of their recent album release, Naked. It's Friday night and the set time is at 11:30 p.m. Tickets are $10.

And while youre there, check out an awesome Kiss mural just across the street from Mercury Lounge at Houston Street and Avenue A.
