Long-time "All My Children" actor James Mitchell has died.
Mitchell's partner said the soap actor passed away at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles on Friday.
He suffered from chronic obstructive pulmonary disease for years, worsened by a recent bout of pneumonia.
A trained dancer and stage and film actor, Mitchell's credits include Broadway musicals and films such as 1953's "The Band Wagon" and 1955's "Oklahoma."
Mitchell was best-known for playing gruff patriarch Palmer Courtland on "All My Children." He appeared in more than 300 episodes from 1979 to 2008, when he stopped appearing as a series regular.
James Mitchell was 89 years old.
