Harlem Congressman Charles Rangel says he's not giving up the chairmanship of the powerful House Ways and Means Committee.
The Democrat has been under fire ever since an ethics committee released a report last week that found he violated House rules by accepting two corporate-sponsored trips to the Caribbean.
After meeting Tuesday night with House Speaker Nancy Pelosi to discuss the matter, Rangel told reporters he's not giving up the gavel, not even temporarily.
But according to the New York Times, Republicans are getting ready to force a vote on the issue, which could come as soon as Wednesday.
