“Inside City Hall,” an hour-long look at New York politics, can be seen on NY1 News weekdays at 7 and 10 p.m.

On last night’s “Inside City Hall”, State Senate Majority Leader Dean Skelos responded to a federal judge’s suggestion that the redistricting process be turned over to the courts.

Watch a clip of the interview above.

Tonight’s guests include: Chief Judge Jonathan Lippman; the author of the new book "Money Well Spent?" about the President's stimulus plan; our political rundown with Curtis Sliwa and Gerson Borrero.

INSIDE THE PAPERS

The New York Times

Sharon Otterman reports: “Cardinal-designate Timothy M. Dolan is not shy about championing his adopted hometown. On Tuesday morning, he welcomed visitors to the roof of the Pontifical North American College near the Vatican, wearing a New York Police Department windbreaker and a New York Giants Super Bowl victory cap.”

Charlie Bagli writes: “The Bloomberg administration on Tuesday staunchly defended its decision to provide the online grocer FreshDirect with an unusually large $127.8 million package of cash and tax breaks to move to the Bronx rather than New Jersey.”

John Eligon notes: “Instituting new safeguards against wrongful convictions and raising the age at which criminal defendants are considered adults should be top priorities of legislators and the legal community in New York, the state’s chief judge said Tuesday.”

New York Post

A Post trio writes: “MTA police will crack down on riders smoking on the commuter rail lines today, enforcing a new ban on lighting up on outdoor platforms, ticket booths, and parking lots. Anyone caught smoking at Long Island Rail Road and Metro-North Railroad facilities will be subject to a maximum $50 fine — and a possible 30-day jail sentence.”

New York Daily News

Ken Lovett writes: “State Senate Republicans won’t always love Whitney Houston. The Senate GOP rejected a request from Sen. Eric Adams (D-Brooklyn) for a resolution honoring the late singer’s life. Adams said he was told there was uneasiness about doing a tribute for someone who may have died of a drug overdose. He also said he was told that Houston had no real local ties to New York.”

Lovett also writes: “Gov. Cuomo is intervening in the ‘toxic’ negotiations for a new evaluation system of city teachers. Cuomo told reporters Tuesday that he has held high-stakes summits with the Bloomberg administration and the United Federation of Teachers in hopes of brokering a deal.”

Mark Morales notes: “The Deputy Manhattan borough president threatened to shut a Harlem bistro down after four black women were asked to give their table to white customers, the restaurant owner says.”

Until tomorrow.
