Officials say a child is hospitalized with major head injuries, after being struck by a car in Queens on Thursday afternoon.

According to officials, the incident occurred at the intersection of 116th Street and Rockaway Boulevard around 2:45 p.m.

Police say it is unclear at this point what exactly happened.

Witnesses say they couldn't see which car struck the boy, whom officials say is possibly around five or six years old.

"I heard a boom, and I looked around thinking that somebody got hit on Rockaway. I look over and see the lady running across the street, and the boy, the little kid was under the car, the van over there, and that was it," said witness Dwayne Tatum.

The child was taken to a Long Island Hospital, where officials say he in serious condition.
