A 23-year-old British tourist remains in critical condition after she was hit by a taxi in Midtown Tuesday morning.
Sian Green was hit at 49th Street and Sixth Avenue shortly before 11:30 a.m.
Witnesses say the taxi driver jumped the curb and hit her.
Police say Green's left foot and right leg were severed, but good Samaritans put them on ice before first responders arrived.
"I see the yellow cab on the sidewalk, and I see the woman on the street without her leg and her hand cut. I do my best. I try to bring the cooler. I collect all the ice from all the food vendors," said one witness.
Celebrity doctor Mehmet Oz was nearby and also rushed to the scene to help.
Police Commissioner Ray Kelly says she remains under sedation after having her left leg amputated below the knee.
"In terms of her spirits, I'm not certain. I think she's still under sedation," Kelly said. "There are some relatives here in the New York/New Jersey area. We've contacted them. I believe that some of them are at the hospital."
The cab driver was not injured, but he was given a ticket because police say he wasn't authorized to drive a cab.
A biker who was also hit by the cab suffered minor injuries.
Kelly said an investigation into the case is ongoing.
