There will be changes in traffic patterns along the Ed Koch Queensboro Bridge through Sunday morning as workers repair a floor beam damaged as a result of a truck fire Friday.

City Transportation Department inspectors say they checked the stability of the I-beams that support the upper roadway on the span and found that the beams are slightly out of line because of the fire.

As a result, only the westbound (Manhattan-bound) lanes of the bridge will be open, with Manhattan-bound traffic using the upper level and Queens-bound traffic using the lower level.

The DOT says that repairs to the beam are expected to be complete by Sunday morning, and that all but one lane on the upper level of the Queens-bound side of the bridge will reopen at that point.

The final lane on the upper level of the Queens-bound side will open once all repairs are complete, according to the DOT.

The FDNY says the call for the fire came in shortly after 11 a.m.

The lower level wreck sent heavy smoke off the bridge, and fire officials say some wires on the bridge caught fire as well.

Fire officials say it took about an hour and a half to get the flames under control.

No injuries were reported.

Traffic was backed up for miles during the evening rush hour as a result of the accident.
