A man described as emotionally disturbed is being evaluated at Bellevue Hospital after police had to rescue him from the top of the Brooklyn Bridge.

Shortly before 3 p.m. Saturday, members of the New York City Police Department's Emergency Service Unit climbed to the top of the Manhattan-side tower to talk to the man.

After a few hours, the officers were able to bring him safely into custody.

The rescue caused the bridge to be closed for about three hours, snarling traffic in Manhattan and Brooklyn.
