Police shot a man in the Cypress Hills section of Brooklyn Tuesday night after they say he refused to drop a gun.

Authorities say a group of police officers in plain clothes headed to a home on Glenmore Avenue in Cypress Hills to investigate a tip claiming a man was living there illegally.

When officers arrived, the suspect allegedly left out the back door holding a gun.

Police say one of the officers ordered the man to drop the gun.

When the man allegedly refused, police say the officer shot the man in the torso.

Police say they recovered a .38-caliber revolver, pictured at right, from the man.

The 31-year-old suspect was taken to the hospital and is expected to recover.

Police say charges are pending.
