Authorities are investigating a shooting that occured on Utica Avenue and Clarendon Road in East Flatbush Tuesday involving two off duty correction officers and one other person.

Police say Officer Dale Moore, 32, allegedly shot an unidentified man twice in the chest Tuesday afternoon. The Correction Department says Captain Shalonda Smith was also involved.

Authorities say the victim was taken to Kings County Hospital in critical condition.

Tony Herbert, a community advocate, says he is friends with relatives of one of the people involved and believes the dispute stemmed from some sort of a love triangle between the three.

"Three lives are ruined, with the baby included," Herbert said. "Who wants to deal with this kind of craziness? You have to get involved with the police, the media and all that stuff. It's just sad. And a gun is involved and that's another issue."

While circumstances of the shooting have not yet been released, the Correction Officers' Benevolent Association released a statement calling the shooting tragic, adding they believe the investigation will reveal Moore acted in self-defense.
