Most of the attention since Hurricane Sandy has rightfully been on those who lost so much in the storm, but the difficult steps toward recovery have also taken their toll on workers who have the job of making things right. NY1's Ruschell Boone filed the following report.

The crew at Channel Oil has a tough job ahead of them. They are repairing and replacing boilers damaged during the hurricane, but they're having a hard time keeping up with the demand from their Broad Channel customers who have power, but no heat.

"It's kind of hard," said Tim Bradford, the owner of Channel Oil. "Everybody needs the same thing right now and parts are at a premium. You can't get 'em."

Bradford said residents have been patient, but after nearly three weeks of braving the cold, many are frustrated. The crew said some were yelling at them on the street, so they no longer wear their company shirts.

"We came down the block with a boiler and heater in the truck," said Ken Magsamen, a worker at Channel Oil. "People just started attacking us from every house from every angle. So it was a little overwhelming."

"The sick first, we're trying to help, and people with cancer that can't leave the house," Bradford said. "We're just trying to do our best. Believe me, folks. We're trying. Be patient."

Cindy Mangan is one of their patient customers. She has been using space heaters to try to keep her family warm, but there's no hot water.

"We've been going kind of every other day to somebody else's house to try to clean up, shower the kids and everything, too, and the heat," she said.

Channel Oil said she'll have a new boiler soon.

"It will be great," she said. "I'm very excited to finally have that back."

The head of the company said he's waiting on a shipment of parts and supplies so hopefully, the crew can continue to deliver good news to other customers.
