Elementary school students in Queens celebrated Thursday the opening of a new playground they helped design.

An asphalt lot at PS 50 was completely transformed through combined efforts of the city, The Trust for Public Land, and a design team of students, teachers, parents, and community members.

The million dollar playground features an outdoor Ping-Pong table, turf field, and even an outdoor classroom.

Students researched possible themes and voted on the Titanic.

"It came out good. They took all the designs we asked for. It came out beautiful -- almost better than we planned," said PS 50 Fourth Grader Aliya Griffith.

The playground will be open to the community after school and on weekends. ClientIP:, UserAgent: CCBot/2.0 ( Profile: TWCSAMLSP
