When it's cold out in New York City, you may feel compelled to stay in, but there is checking out one hot block where you can do a restaurant hop without leaving the street. Zagat editor James Mulcahy filed this report. 

It's winter in New York City, which means you probably don't want to go out. But today we're showing you the one city block that you'll probably want to cozy up to.

West 8th Street between Fifth and Sixth avenue used to be a collection of shoe stores and head shops. Not anymore. This stretch of concrete has become a culinary destination, with a dish or drink for every time of day.

"A number of us have really identified it as a place where we can make a home," says Analogue owner Jared Gordon.

"Everybody has realized that this is a beautiful block and more and more eating and drinking establishments have come in," says Jack Parker Corporation President Steven Pipes.

Start your one block hop at the Marlton Hotel, where you can camp out by the fireplace for coffee or have a full breakfast lunch or dinner head to trendy restaurant Margaux.

"A lot of people come because they want to be able to have a nice glass of red wine, or maybe a brown spirit drink and eat some food that's a little more comforting, and just avoid that New York City cold that all of us feel," says Marlton Hotel Food and Beverage Director Eric Rosenfeld.

For a casual bite, hit up burger joint, which has the best patty in New York—according to Zagat's 2015 survey. Also on tap here: boozy milkshakes.

Mulcahy: "It's boozy. What's new here at the restaurant?"
Pipes: "It's really just been significant growth in people knowing that we're here and people can come here and not wait in line for 45 minutes or an hour like they do at the Parker Meridian." 

When it's time for a proper cocktail, head to Analogue, a spot that highlights the best things about mixology without crazy waits or super high prices.

"We have a strong cocktail program, but we accompany that with a great wine list and a good beer selection and a very strong bourbon and whiskey library. We were looking for a place we could accompany on its way up. When we moved in and heard that the Marlton was coming in with us and that there were a number of other pioneers, we were very happy to be part of that movement," says Gordon. 

"From simple places to very elaborate restaurants, you really can get anything here now," Pipes says.

"It really is becoming a center for food, drink and nightlife," Gordon says.
