For the audiophile who has everything, NY1’s Adam Balkin takes a look at three unique gift ideas for the holidays.
There are hundreds, maybe even thousands of headphones or portable speakers on the market, so hunting down the perfect new set for a gift might take every single day from Thanksgiving until Christmas and then some to test out every new option available.
Here are three that do things a bit differently.
First up, the $60 Jam Fusion headphones, Bluetooth headphones designed so that two people can listen to same device at the same time, wirelessly.
“Before if two kids in the back wanted to listen to the same DVD player, you would have to get a headphone jack splitter and it diminishes the audio quality. With the Jam Fusion you can use two headphones with the same device and the audio quality is great,” said Hillary Pecorale of HMDX Audio.
What makes the $30 Soundflow Soundboard speakers interesting?
How they work: by acoustically magnifying sound. Just place your phone down on one, and that's it.
“It's not Bluetooth, it's not Wi-Fi, you put your phone down it works with the magnetic strips on the phone and as long as it touches each black strip it plays your phone, you don't have to download an app,” said Caitlin Marinaro of VOXX Int’l.
The third gadget we’re looking at might look like another new pair of funky headphones, which they are, but unlike other headphones they actually help you to regrow your hair.
The iGrow Hair Growth System costs around $700 and is designed not necessarily to return a full head of hair to someone who's completely bald but rather restore some hair and strengthen existing strands on those who are thinning.
“It's the first FDA cleared, at-home, hands-free, hair growth device that uses inherent low-level laser therapy to basically reenergize the cells within the hair follicle and grow thinning hair back thicker and fuller,” said Nick Norton of Apira Science.
It's designed to be used every other day for about 25 minutes at a time. Developers say in their trials users started noticing results in about four to six months.
