NY1 VIDEO: Zagat Editor James Mulcahy recently visited Jacob's Pickles, a new restaurant that promises to bring "beer, biscuits and pickles" to the Upper West Side.
Here's what owner Jacob Hadjigeorgis had to say about it:
"Jacob's Pickles is a regional American comfort food restaurant. I specialize in American craft beer, biscuits and pickles. I wanted to introduce pickles to a new generation, so we started playing around with new vinegar, apple ciders, rice vinegar, even white wine vinegar that hasn't been distilled, which still holds that full flavor that it should have. Right now, we're offering six different types of pickles along with our preserves and our condiments.
"We have a select list of American craft beers, with a lot of beers and breweries that haven't been introduced to the northeast market yet. I'm really excited to be offering the growlers, because people now have the option of taking really great beer home. We have two sizes of growlers, 32 ounces and 64 ounces. You can come in, get them filled, take them home, bring them back and get them refilled.
"Everything that you find at Jacob's Pickles is premium, homemade mixers and spirits. We do offer a 'Dickleback.' The reason why we do 'Dicklebacks' instead of 'picklebacks' is because the whiskey of choice is the 12-year-old George Dickle whiskey, out of Tennessee. We do a shot of Dickle, paired with a shot of homemade brine, served with a pickle, of course.
"My favorite dish has to be the buttermilk fried chicken, smothered in honey and topped with hot-n-sour pickles. It's just a great mix of sweet and savory, great textures. You have the flakiness of the biscuits, the crunchiness of the chicken and it comes with super-decadent cheese grits."
