A missing sidewalk has some residents in Far Rockaway, Queens turning to NY1 For You to pave the way. NY1's Susan Jhun filed the following NY1 For You report.Residents on a Far Rockaway, Queens street say a nearby muddy, broken-up mess is a sad excuse for a sidewalk.
"It's all cracked up. It's really a big hazard," says Caitlin Dooley, a neighbor.
It is one that has been present along the property of Buster's Marine Service for four years now, frustrating those living on the street.
"People taking their kids out to walk the dog, to play baseball, to go fishing, that gets a lot of foot traffic because it's right on the corner property of the main thoroughfare in town," says Bart Daudelin, a neighbor.
Neighbors say they called 311 with no results.
"He's a responsible businessman. He's providing a service, he pays his taxes, he has every right to be there and I don't begrudge a man for making his living. I just have a problem that I can't walk up the corner to the library with my kids," says Daudelin.
NY1 reached out to the owner of Buster's Marine Service, who told the station that he was completely unaware that his neighbors felt this way. Furthermore, he claims there was never a sidewalk there to begin with.
However, in the interest of being a good neighbor, the store owner told NY1 he will install a new sidewalk immediately. Hopefully it will be an easy stroll for all involved.
